Tate published âPoems 1922-1947â here and Gordon Wrote âThe Strange Childrenâ and compiled âThe House of Fictionâ. As Tate was a founder of Princeton Universityâs Creative Writing Program, we can only wonder about whom may have been entertained here. Entering the home, in one of the ânewer additionsâ move to the left and then you are in the original first floor room. The large fireplace is indicative of the time, using it for cooking as well as heat (It is now decorative). Note the stone in the hearth that has âUNIONâ etched in it. It is believed that this could have been was a marker to show that this was a safe house for the Underground Railroad. The long thin cupboard, next to the fireplace gives credence that this could have been a tavern as it could possibly be a brandy cupboard. Note the original floor in the room. The hand cut boards have the uneven charm of age⦠the knots from the branches can still be seen. A step down to a study or a private sitting room, is a cozy spot. Back to the hall way, and into the kitchen. Bright and airy, lots of natural light floods in. There is a door here leading to one of two patios on this side of the house. The peninsula in the kitchen is a great spot to grab a coffee. Then a step up from the hall to the large living room, with bay window over looking the yard and French door leading to the second patio. The living room has a brick surround fire place that is wood burning. Imagine nights by the fire! In the corner of the living room is a spiral staircase connecting the room to the basement and the second floor. The basement is a great workshop, perfect for working on projects. Using this stair case, one enters the primary bedroom suite on the second floor, a good size room with its own private bath. Leading from the primary suite is access to the second bedroom which shares a bath with bedroom 3. Off bedroom three is a bonus room, that is currently being used as a studio. Bedroom 3 has a beamed ceiling like those on the first floor. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are connected to the first floor by their own staircase from the first floor entry.
